The most populous area of Lombok, these cities are connected by a wide 8km long street but each has a different personality. Armpenan, an old port town, is a maze of small streets, old buildings, Chinese and Arba quarters - a bustling city with lots of character. Mataram is the center of government offices, also the home of Nusa Tengarra Barrat museum. Cakranegara is home to The Mayura Water Palace built in 1744 to serve Balinese court, and of many craft shops, including weaving and art made from the sugar palm tree. Nearby is the Seklakas horse racing field which often hosts events on Sundays and various holidays.Location: Ampenan lies 30 km southeast of the Oberoi, Lombok.
