* The Museum documents the early and prehistory of the South Tyrol from the end of the last Ice Age (15.000 B.C.) up to the time of Charlemagne.
"The Iceman" visitors have the possibility to view this unique glacier mummy, estimated to be 5300 years old and preserved by means of a conservation system of novel design; the excellent state of preservation of the organic components of the Iceman's clothing and equipment offers a realistic image of the conditions governing the life of prehistoric man.* Excursions to the surroundings of Bolzano:

Starting point: S. Genesio, a well preserved old mountain village with a wonderful view, reachable by cablecar from Bolzano* CATINACCIO (Dolomites)
Starting point: Nova Levante (1182 metres), 21 kilometres from Bolzano on the Great Dolomites Road* ALPE DI SIUSI AND SCILIAR (1800-2563 metres)
Starting point: Lower terminal of the Spitzbuhel chair lift on the western edge of the Alpe di Siusi; you can reach it from Bolzano by car or coach (30 kilometres) via Vols and Seis.* The Talfer Promenade
A short and easy promenade which runs for about 1300 metres on the wide left bank of the Talfer river between the Talfer Bridge and St. Anthony's Bridge . Beautiful views of the Dolomites, terraced vineyards and Maretsch Castle.* The Oswald Promenade
It winds 2.5 kilometres along the slopes of the Hortenberg hill to the North of the town, from St. Anthony's to the wine-producing village called St. Magdalena. Very sunny especially during the afternoon, but also shaded by subtropical plants and woods. Splendid view of the town and the surrounding mountains.* The Guntschna Promenade
Starting from Gries it climbs up the slopes of the Guntschna mountain for 2.4 kilometers, beautiful views of the Bolzano basin, especially towards the Dolomites.
