Situated on the south east coast of France, on the Mediterranean Sea, Nice is an ideal holiday destination and the fifth most populated city in France. The area of Nice today is believed to be one of the oldest human settlements in Europe.
During the 18th centaury Nice gained attention from the upper classes of the English making it a popular place for aristocratic families to spend their winters. The history of English visitors is shown by ‘promenade de anglais’ the promenade of the English, which was built by beggars who were paid by rich Englishmen.
