Lincoln

 

History, fantastic markets and culture are all reasons why you should visit Lincoln. Lincoln has a unique structure due to the river Witham separating it into two parts informally known as uphill and downhill. Lincoln cathedral, found in uphill stood high above the city is viewable wherever you are in Lincoln; originally built in 1088 this beautiful building was once taller than the pyramids of Egypt. Its beautiful stained glass windows surrounding the church are worth a trip across the whole British Isles just to see them. Close to the cathedral you will find Lincoln castle, one of the best-preserved Norman castles in the UK and one of only two that have two mottes, the other one is in Sussex. Lincolns’ history stretches right up to almost modern day, with the first tanks ever used being built in Lincoln towards the end of the First World War. During the Second World War Lincoln also manufactured planes munitions and military vehicles.

 

The collection in Lincolnshire is a museum and gallery holding over 2,000,000 objects and paintings just waiting to be viewed. Other culture attractions include the museum of Lincolnshire life and sir Joseph Banks conservatory.

 

Most of Lincolns’ tourism is in the summer however attracts many people to its Christmas market every year in the castle grounds. This market is based on the traditional German Christmas markets. Christmas isn’t the only time that Lincoln is a great place to shop, its high street features many shops, big and little brands, and Lincoln is also home to the waterside shopping centre.
